Description

A creamy and comforting breakfast made by simmering toasted steel-cut oats with fresh apples until tender. Perfect for meal prepping or a cozy weekend morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 medium apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • Maple syrup or honey (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the steel-cut oats and toast, stirring frequently, for about 2 minutes until they smell nutty and fragrant.
  2. Add the chopped apples, water, and salt to the pot. Stir well and increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low to maintain a gentle simmer. Cook for 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and the apples are tender.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes to thicken further. Stir in maple syrup or honey to taste before serving.

Notes

For a vegan version, use coconut oil or vegan butter for toasting. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
